Located in the bustling heart of Porto at Rua do Heroismo 100, Confeitaria Roma is a charming cafe that caters to both locals and travelers seeking a delightful pause in their day. Known for its strong coffee culture, this café specializes in expertly brewed espresso and offers signature Portuguese treats that perfectly complement every cup.
The standout items on the menu are the rich, velvety coffees, the iconic Pastéis de Nata, and flaky, buttery croissants. Each pastel de nata bursts with creamy, caramelized custard wrapped in crisp, golden pastry, offering a decadent sweetness that lingers just enough to satisfy your cravings. The croissants, fresh and tender, provide a comforting balance to the bold, slightly bitter notes of the espresso—a pairing that feels both indulgent and comforting.
Visitors frequently praise the café’s inviting atmosphere. With plenty of seating both inside and outdoors, it’s an ideal spot to relax before heading off on your next adventure. Nicholas Siler advises opting for the outdoor tables when available, as the setting complements the leisurely experience perfectly. Meanwhile, Neil Beard highlights the cleanliness, friendly staff, and impressively diverse offerings—an unexpected highlight being the warm pizza and delicate Swiss roll cake, which showcase the café’s versatility beyond traditional pastries.
Confeitaria Roma’s charm lies in its ability to balance authenticity with approachability. While some, like Bryan Soh, found the sweetness of certain pastries a bit intense, many appreciate this café’s affordability and the genuine warmth of its service. This mix of flavors and genuine hospitality invites you to savor each moment, whether it’s a quick caffeine fix or a slow indulgence in Porto’s café culture.
For anyone looking to immerse themselves in a truly Porto-esque café experience—with rich flavors, a welcoming vibe, and a location that’s perfect for a pre-travel respite—Confeitaria Roma stands out as a heartfelt and authentic choice.

This is the place you want to go if you have time to wait before your train. Nowhere else compares. Ask for the outside table if it's available.
Really nice coffee shop serving great esspresso. I also had a slice pf pizza (warmed up) and a large slice of swiss roll cake to fill the gap after swim session. Very nice staff, very clean and with plenty of tables inside. Recommended.
Everything tasted too sweet for my liking, especially the pastel de nata and muffin. Service was fine and everything was very affordable so I did not have too high expectations of the food.
